Set up for the next song on the album
The Message is the story of a man that receives an interstellar message, transmitted from a dying planet that portends bad things for much of the universe including Earth. He resists, but ultimately succumbs to act on this (ala Moses or Noah). He warns and gathers people and deals with the difficulties and uncertainties of interstellar travel. And once reaching the planet, massive adaptations and transformations occur. Eddie wrote these lyrics independently of this and just happened to fit perfectly (and maybe influenced) the story line. Reminded me of "Man Plus" by Frederick Pohl
Prologue: Another Eden
W&M Ron Tintner
We have left Earth, our home. Where is Earth 2.0?
We've scoured our data banks to find exoplanets in their stars habitable, or Goldilocks zone - From before launch and while on this journey.
There are dozens of possibilities. Some were discovered by the telescopes of the 21st century. The instruments on board our starship have detected others and refined our knowledge of the earlier candidates. But our data is still incomplete.
It is not good enough to say with anything near certainty on which planets we might survive.
Just a crapshoot with bad odds? Maybe.
But somehow, in my mind, I actually SEE the place we're going.
A sage from an old space flick might tell me: turn off your instruments, use the force! He might be right.
Follow the vision the message in my mind.
